The tomb of Urban VIII by Gianlorenzo Bernini. Pope Barberini commissioned this splendid portrait, in which the sculptor is clearly exalting the role of the papacy. It blends perfectly with the rest of the decoration of the basilica and was intended to glorify Peter and his successors. Charity and Justice watch over the scene of the triumph of the pope, while Death writes out his name.
