A small two-star, the San Pietrino has 12 rooms beautifully decorated with cream walls, terracotta floors and tasteful dark wood furniture. The extras – TV and DVD player, ADSL internet connection – are unusual for a place in this category. Highly recommended.
A winner on all counts, this great little hotel gets everything right. It’s excellent value for money; it’s near a metro station, and within walking distance of the Vatican; and its owners are super helpful. Admittedly neither the hotel nor its rooms are big, but in Rome, in this price bracket, that’s the norm. Housed in a converted flat on the 3rd floor of a 19th-century palazzo, it’s a simple place with a tiny reception and narrow corridors leading off to the intimate rooms. There’s no bar area and no breakfast but this is no great loss as there are plenty of bars and cafes in the neighbourhood. For the energetic – and courageous – bike hire is available, as is wi-fi.
